I have decided to break this down in two separate blog posts, in this one I’ll talking about Blog Post SEO, while in the other one I’ll talk about Blog Website SEO. SEO is actually very important for your posts. Blog post SEO means optimizing your blog’s content and post architecture so that it ranks higher on search engines. 1. Use long tailed keywords for each blog post

Every time you write a blog post, make sure that you focus around one main keyword and one specific topic. If your blog post contains a lot of different keywords and topics, the search engines will probably get confused about what your post is about and it can hence, decrease your ranking in search results.

However, the downside to using only one main keyword is that it will become very competitive. So as a beginner, one should focus on long tailed keywords as there is less competition in long tailed keywords and they are more likely to rank your blog higher. The best way to search for long tailed keywords is to write a few starting words in google search and check what google suggests next. All the suggestions given will make up your long tailed keywords.

2. Include your keyword in your blog post title

This step makes up for blog post optimization, once you have searched for your keyword, you want to make sure to use it in your blog post title. This will make the search engine understand that the focus is on a specific topic. It helps the search engine and the reader determine the relevancy of your content. So, including a keyword here is vital.

3. Include your keyword in your headings and first paragraph

The next step is to include your keyword in your blog post’s first paragraph (or the last paragraph as well if needed). After these steps, you can use the keyword as many times as you like but keep it’s use neutral. Don’t overstuff your post with only keywords as it can cause your blog post SEO more harm then good. You can use related keywords and terms to avoid overstuffing. If your blog post is about 500 words, you can use your keyword for about 8-10 times.

4. Optimize your blog post image SEO

When I started out blogging, I didn’t know if there was any use of “Alt text” when I uploaded images on my blog so I left it. However, now I came to know that Alt text plays an important role in your image SEO.

An image’s alt text helps search engine know what your image is about. So if I uploaded a picture of a few pink butterflies in the sky, I will fill up the alt text section as “beautiful pink butterflies in the sky” instead of “image1235”. It is this simple, but it plays an important role to make your image appear on google image search.

5. Edit your permalink structure for SEO

Okay so with the permalink there are two things you have to focus on. Firstly, make sure that your permalink contains your main focus keyword. Secondly, make sure that your permalink is not too long, it should be short and to the point. These two factors will play a great role in your blog post SEO optimization.

These other few things are to be kept in mind when you edit your permalink for SEO optimization of your blog post:

  • Keep it simple and to the point.
  • Include your keyword
  • Use hyphens to separate words.
  • Eliminate stop words i.e is, are etc.
  • Avoid editing permalink over and over again.

6. Download essential plugins to optimize blog post SEO

7. Use Internal linking to optimize your blog SEO

Internal links  connect your content together and gives Google an idea of the structure of your website. It can also guide readers to read more of your content and stay on your website. Internal Linking is useful for three main reasons:

  • They allow readers to navigate a website.
  • They help establish hierarchy and structure for the given website.
  • They help in the ranking of a website.

8. Use keyword in your meta description

Writing your meta description is important as it gives the readers and the search engines and ideas about what your content is about. A meta description should be catchy and attractive as it is what a reader sees first before clicking on the link. Make sure you use your keyword in your meta description as well.
